SAS stands for Special Air Service in Zombie Assault
Last checked 2026-10-29. Claims link the source that supports them.
SAS stands for Special Air Service. The series wiki’s S.A.S. article gives that expansion for the unit portrayed in the games. Independently, Britain’s National Army Museum identifies the real military unit as the Special Air Service. These sources support the name; they do not establish a military endorsement of the game. What the letters mean in the game
In the older games you play a fictional soldier fighting a zombie outbreak. The SAS4 store description calls its fighters special forces and writes the initials as “S A S.” It does not expand those letters on that page, so the explicit game-specific expansion comes from the wiki. The museum supplies the independent real-world meaning, rather than confirming fictional series lore.
The letters identify the special-forces theme; they are not a separate class choice. In SAS4, Assault, Heavy and Medic are the playable classes. SAS TD uses the same setting for tower defense, where you place soldiers and defenses rather than controlling the shooter in the same way.
The real name and the fictional setting
The National Army Museum traces the unit’s origins to 1941. That historical background explains the initials; it should not be used as a description of the game’s events, equipment or future setting. A game borrowing a real military name does not make its zombie storyline a historical account.
Other searches for SAS may concern software, airlines or unrelated abbreviations. Include “Zombie Assault” or the game number when looking for builds and weapon guides. The full series title also distinguishes these games from similarly named zombie titles.
Why the new title says Resurgence
The newer game’s published name is Zombie Assault: Resurgence. Its title omits the SAS prefix and uses a subtitle instead of a number. That establishes the name, but does not establish the publisher’s reason for choosing it.
Resurgence is a separate release rather than a rename applied to SAS4. Use the SAS5 explainer for the sequel-name question, or the series timeline to distinguish the browser, mobile and Steam dates.
Questions on this page
What does SAS stand for in SAS Zombie Assault?
Special Air Service. The series wiki supplies the game-specific expansion, while the National Army Museum independently documents the real military name.
Is the game endorsed by the real SAS?
The reviewed game store text does not establish a military license or endorsement. A shared name alone does not establish either.
Why does Resurgence drop SAS from the title?
The published title omits the letters. The reviewed sources do not state the naming decision’s rationale; the game has its own release and progression.
