SAS4 best class: Assault for general play, Heavy for durability

Last checked 2026-10-29. Claims link the source that supports them.

Assault is a sensible general-purpose first pick; Heavy suits players who value durability, and Medic suits a support role. This recommendation reflects player guides and discussion, not a Ninja Kiwi ranking. SAS 4 BIBLE recommends Assault or Heavy to beginners, while an independent solo-class discussion favors Assault but also recommends Heavy. These are community opinions reviewed October 29, 2026.

Choose by the job you want to do

SituationStarting choiceReason and tradeoff
Solo missions and moving between objectivesAssaultAdrenaline supports movement and attack speed; keep moving rather than treating it as armor.
Holding a defensive positionHeavyHold the Line supports stationary damage; Tough Body provides mitigation. Standing still can conflict with escort or evacuation tasks.
Organized co-op supportMedicMedkit heals and Biocleanse Bomb controls enemies. Keeping the squad effective still requires enough personal damage and mobility.

The skill roles above come from Skills (SAS:4) and the separately authored Skill builds with description. Exact skill values are not needed to choose a role. The table’s situation-based recommendations are editorial interpretations of those mechanics.

Assault: a useful default, not a universal winner

For general missions, build around Adrenaline and Killing Spree. The former is a temporary speed tool; the latter rewards maintaining a kill streak. The wiki Assault article also describes the class as generally considered the best. That agrees with the independent player discussion, but it remains a community judgment rather than a current balance test across every mode.

Move to the builds page for the complete balanced allocation and the author’s early priorities. Choose equipment that supports the movement-oriented plan rather than selecting a class solely from an unlabeled tier list.

Heavy and Medic: two different kinds of safety

Heavy’s defensive skills help the character survive incoming damage, while Medic supplies healing and enemy control. The build guide’s author calls Heavy the easiest beginner choice; that differs from the Assault-first solo discussion. Both recommendations are useful when their priorities are made explicit.

For Nightmare, events and Faction Warfare, the mission’s objective and your squad’s needs matter more than a blanket ranking. A hold-position Heavy setup has a different job from a moving Assault or a Medic keeping teammates supplied. The sources reviewed do not establish one current winner for every activity.

Skill limits and the separate Resurgence game

The wiki skill-system page records 100 total skill points and a 25-point per-skill limit (single community source for these caps). Our build tables total the points explicitly. These allocations describe SAS4; use the Resurgence class guide for that game’s separate system.

Questions on this page

Which class is best for solo SAS4?

Assault is the general-purpose recommendation in the cited solo discussion. Heavy is another useful beginner choice in independently authored guides; neither is a publisher ranking.

Is Heavy better for beginners?

The linked Skill builds author favors Heavy for new players, while other players prefer Assault. Pick durability or mobility according to your priorities.

Is Medic only a support class?

No. The cited build guide distinguishes combat and support Medic setups. Medkit and Biocleanse Bomb give it a support role without making all builds identical.

Can I use the same build in Resurgence?

No. The allocations here are for SAS4. Resurgence has its own progression and class guide.
